Davido Uses Global Stage to Spotlight Oyo School Kidnappings

Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, used the international spotlight of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert to shine a light on Nigeria’s growing security crisis.

During his performance, the award-winning singer appeared on stage wearing a custom-made black leather jacket decorated with green buttons bearing the names of students and teachers abducted during a recent school kidnapping in Oyo State.

The abduction, which took place in May 2026, sent shockwaves across the country after armed attackers reportedly stormed three schools in the Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area, kidnapping several pupils and teachers.

The tragedy took an even darker turn when reports confirmed the death of a mathematics teacher, Michael Oyedokun. Public outrage intensified after a disturbing video allegedly showing the teacher’s execution surfaced online.

The incident sparked nationwide concern, with residents, students, and educators staging protests and blocking major roads to demand stronger security measures for schools and rural communities.

Davido used the moment to amplify calls for action. Across the back of his jacket was a bold message that read, “BRING THEM HOME,” a direct appeal for the rescue of those still being held captive.

Speaking backstage before taking the stage, the singer expressed his sadness over the incident and urged both federal and state authorities to step up efforts to secure the safe release of the remaining victims.

Beyond his music career, Davido has built a reputation for philanthropy and social advocacy. Since breaking into the spotlight with hits such as “Dami Duro,” he has consistently used his platform to support vulnerable communities and raise awareness about important social issues.

In 2022, he launched the Davido Adeleke Foundation, an initiative focused on supporting orphanages and individuals in need. Over the years, he has also made significant charitable donations and leveraged his social media influence to highlight issues affecting Nigerians.

As one of Africa’s most influential entertainers and cultural ambassadors, Davido’s decision to draw global attention to the plight of the abducted Oyo students and teachers resonated with fans across the world, turning a major entertainment event into a powerful call for justice and action.
