Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦15 million to the School of Nursing Sciences, Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku, Owerri, Imo State, as part of his continued support for education and healthcare institutions across Nigeria.
During his visit to the institution yesterday, Obi met with the management, staff, and students, where he reaffirmed his belief that investing in healthcare education is critical to national development.
Addressing the students, Obi reminded them of the vital role they play in society, stressing that the world needs healthcare professionals more than they need the world.

“Healthcare is one of humanity’s most fundamental needs. Any nation that truly seeks development must invest in the education and training of healthcare professionals, who remain indispensable to the well-being and productivity of society,” he said.
Obi also expressed delight at the progress made by the institution, particularly after inspecting its computer laboratory, which he had previously supported.
Reflecting on his longstanding investments in the health sector, he recalled supporting institutions such as Iyi-Enu and Borromeo hospitals, both of which have since evolved into teaching hospitals.
“Their transformation reinforces my belief that sustained investments in health and education produce lasting results. I look forward to seeing Holy Rosary Hospital attain the same status,” he stated.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s future depends on building strong institutions capable of producing competent professionals while ensuring that investments are directed toward sectors that improve lives and reduce poverty.

“Our vision must be to build a Nigeria where functional institutions produce competent professionals, where investments are directed to critical sectors that lift people out of poverty, and where every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to succeed. That is how we will build a nation where the son of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
Obi concluded by reaffirming his enduring message of hope: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
