OGUN POLICE NAB TWO SUSPECTS LINKED TO EDO KIDNAPPING, MURDER OF HOSTAGES; RECOVER POLICE CAMOUFLAGE, PHONES

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime following the arrest of two suspects in Ijebu-Ode who have now been linked to a kidnapping and murder case in neighbouring Edo State.

The suspects were apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service and subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

Providing an update on the case, the Command disclosed that intelligence-led investigations carried out by operatives of its Anti-Kidnapping Unit led to the identification of the suspects as 25-year-old Gafaru Adamu and 20-year-old Muhammed Sanni.

According to preliminary findings, both men are wanted in connection with a kidnapping incident in the Okada area of Edo State, where two hostages were reportedly murdered. Investigators also believe the suspects are members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the crime.

As the investigation progressed, police operatives recovered a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The recovered items have been documented and taken into custody as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

The Ogun State Police Command noted that the alleged offences were committed outside its jurisdiction. Consequently, the suspects, along with all recovered exhibits, will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which is leading the investigation and has the primary responsibility for further legal action.

Commending the efforts of the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism, diligence and intelligence-gathering capabilities of the operatives whose swift actions led to the identification of the suspects and the recovery of crucial evidence.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Ogun State does not become a safe haven or transit route for criminals seeking to evade justice.

“The Command remains committed to deploying intelligence-driven strategies, proactive policing measures and strong inter-state collaboration to enhance public safety and security across Ogun State,” the Commissioner stated.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in combating crime and criminality.
