The Nigeria Police Force has announced the passing of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Kanayo V. Uzuegbu, who died on Friday, describing him as a distinguished officer who dedicated his life to serving the nation.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, the Police said AIG Uzuegbu served the Force with exceptional professionalism, integrity, and commitment for more than three decades.
A native of Umuaka Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Uzuegbu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and underwent training at the Police Academy in Kaduna.
Throughout his career, he combined academic excellence with professional development. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Port Harcourt, a Higher Diploma in Strategic Studies from the University of Maiduguri, and a Master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the University of Nigeria. He also attended several professional courses in counter-terrorism, human rights, the law of armed conflict, and strategic leadership.
The statement noted that the late AIG rose steadily through the ranks, holding several key command and administrative positions across state and zonal commands, as well as at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Among his notable appointments were Squadron Commander of No. 15 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Ilorin, Area Commander in Owerri and Karu, Director of the Central Planning and Training Unit at the Police Staff College in Jos, Commissioner of Police for Operations Communication at Force Headquarters, and Commissioner of Police in Enugu State Command. He also served as Commander of Sector 8 during the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in El-Dain, Darfur, Sudan.
Paying tribute to the deceased officer, the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, describing him as a dedicated and honourable officer whose service brought pride to the Force and the country.
“The Nigeria Police Force mourns the loss of a committed officer who served the nation with distinction. We pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family the strength to bear this painful and irreplaceable loss,” the statement said.
