Governor Seyi Makinde Restricts Okada Operations Across Oyo State

Governor Seyi Makinde has announced a statewide restriction on the operations of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen security, reduce criminal activities, and enhance public safety across Oyo State.

According to the government, the decision followed growing concerns over the use of motorcycles in the commission of crimes, particularly during late-night hours. Security agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new regulation.

Under the restriction, commercial motorcycle operators will not be allowed to carry passengers or conduct business during the affected hours anywhere within the state. Violators risk arrest, prosecution, and possible confiscation of their motorcycles.

Governor Makinde urged residents to cooperate with the authorities, emphasizing that the measure is aimed at protecting lives and property. He also called on transport unions and community leaders to sensitize their members and support the enforcement process.

The state government reassured citizens that it remains committed to balancing security concerns with the economic interests of law-abiding residents while continuing efforts to maintain peace and order throughout Oyo State.

Further details on enforcement guidelines are expected to be communicated by the relevant government agencies in the coming days.
