Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo has revealed that she genuinely enjoys playing wicked roles in movies, saying she sees them as an opportunity to expose the negative behaviours that exist in society.
Popularly known as “Mama G,” the award-winning actress shared her thoughts in a recent Instagram post, where she defended the controversial characters she has portrayed throughout her career. According to her, while many of the roles she plays are villainous, they are far removed from her real-life personality.
Ozokwo explained that her motivation for taking on such roles goes beyond entertainment. She believes her performances serve as a reflection of societal issues that many people prefer to ignore.
“I feel bold to expose the ills in society,” she said. “Those things happen and nobody wants to expose them. I am exposing them.”
Emphasising the difference between her on-screen characters and her personal life, she added, “I am not like that, but I expose it. I am extremely proud of myself, and Mama G lovers are proud of me.”
For decades, Patience Ozokwo has remained one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood. She rose to fame through her unforgettable portrayals of strict, manipulative, and often feared characters, earning her the nickname “Mama G.” Whether playing a domineering mother-in-law, a wicked stepmother, or a cunning antagonist, her ability to bring authenticity and intensity to her roles has made her a household name across Nigeria and beyond.
Her impressive film career includes notable productions such as Authority, Living in Bondage, and Submission, among many others. Through these performances, she has consistently challenged audiences to confront the darker realities of human relationships and social behaviour.
Despite frequently being cast as the villain, Ozokwo’s impact extends far beyond the characters she portrays. Over the years, she has built a strong connection with audiences who have watched her evolve from a regional television star into one of Nollywood’s most respected icons.
Today, she continues to command admiration for her longevity, professionalism, and dedication to storytelling. By using her platform to spotlight difficult social issues, Patience Ozokwo remains a powerful force in the Nigerian film industry and an enduring symbol of excellence in African cinema.
