Court Orders Deregistration of ADC, Four Other Political Parties Over Constitutional Violations

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the deregistration of five political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), over their alleged failure to comply with constitutional requirements for maintaining their registration status.

The ruling followed a suit filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators, which asked the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the affected parties from its official register.

The parties listed in the judgment are the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Alliance (AA), Action Peoples Party (APP), Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

In his decision delivered on Monday, Justice Lifu held that the parties had breached the provisions of Section 225 of the Nigerian Constitution and consequently ordered INEC to deregister them.
